Meet your Professors

A point of pride at Martin Methodist is our faculty. Our professors hail from many different industries, hold respected job titles and academic degrees, and more importantly, bring a wealth of skills and knowledge to the classroom. Their mission is to educate, and what better way to accomplish this goal than to entrust our classrooms to accomplished working industry experts; all who come to the classroom with a passion for knowledge and teaching students. 

Dr. Gregory Brown

Dr. Gregory Brown is an Associate Professor of Business and Economics.  He received his B.B.A and M.B.A degrees in Management from Morehead State University and his D.A. degree in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University. He has completed more than 21 additional graduate hours each in management and statistics.  Dr. Brown joined the faculty at Martin Methodist College in 2004, teaching a variety of courses including economics, management and finance. Prior to coming to Martin Methodist, he served as Special Assistant to the President, Chairman of The Labry School of Business, Director of the MBA Program, Director of the Master of Science in Organizational and Human Relations Program and Assistant Professor of Business at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. Additionally, he has served as Chairman of the DeBusk School of Business and MBA Program Director and Assistant Professor of Business at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. Dr. Brown serves as Chairman of the Board of JCG Holdings Company and a member of the Board of Directors at Gap Industries. He has extensive consulting experience in Forensic Economics and has served as a consultant and a contributing writer to The Tennessean newspaper.

Dr. Alice Burkins

Dr. Burkins joined Martin Methodist College as adjunct faculty in January of 2011 and is now an Assistant and Graduate Professor of Business and the Program Coordinator for Accounting.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Martin Methodist College, a Master's of Accounting and Financial Management from Keller Graduate School, and a Doctorate in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with an emphasis in accounting from Walden University.

Dr. Burkins brings a variety of business and management experiences to share with students, she has worked in private, non-profit and government accounting positions, managed both fast-food and retail stores, and owned and operated three small business ventures.

Pat Ford

Pat Ford was elected the Mayor of Pulaski in November of 2010.  Pat is a native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and first came to Pulaski in 1991 to attend Martin Methodist College.  After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1996, he decided to stay in Pulaski and take a job with his alma mater.  While at Martin Methodist, Pat has worked in the Admissions Office as an Admissions Counselor, International Student Advisor and Director of the Evening College Program in Nashville.  He also served six years in the Athletic Department as Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Information Director and Assistant Volleyball Coach.  He then served seven years as the Director of Annual Giving for the college’s Advancement Office.  Since the fall of 2012, Pat has been a member of the College’s faculty as a Business Instructor and Director of the Internship Program. 


Pat received his Master’s in Business Administration from Bethel University in December of 2010.  He has been a member of the Pulaski Rotary Club since 2008 and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2010.  He also served as a Chamber Ambassador for five years, being named Chamber Ambassador of the Year in 2009.  He was a member of the Giles Leadership Class of 2008-2009. 


Pat has always been involved in his community, serving as a Volunteer and Field Coordinator for the Giles County Special Olympics; Fundraising Chair, Entertainment Chair and Event Emcee for the Giles County Relay for Life; as well as Event Chair for the Santa Train Project that each year has provided a Christmas gift for over 650 underprivileged children throughout the community.  He is also a regular volunteer with the TJ Martell Foundation that raises money for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS research.  Pat is a member of First Baptist Church Pulaski where he serves as an active deacon. 

Dr. Dennis Haskins

Chair, Johnston School of Business 

Dr. Haskins brings extensive academic credentials and real-world experience to Martin Methodist College. He joined Martin Methodist in 2003 as an adjunct professor in the education department and now serves as Chair of the Business Division and Director of the MBA after serving as Vice President for Planning and Effectiveness. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University, as well as a Bachelor of  Arts degree in Theology from San Diego Bible College.  He has a Master’s in Business Administration from Chapman University, a Master’s in Education from Lipscomb University, and a Doctorate in Education from Tennessee State University.  Additionally, Dr. Haskins holds numerous certificates in a variety of technology applications. He was a United States Marine Corp infantry officer for many years and rose through the ranks to a position in which he managed a multi-million dollar budget for the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. After retiring from the military, he served as senior project manager for large development and construction projects.  As an entrepreneur, he was an early innovator who founded an internet provider company that was later acquired by a telecommunications company.  His innovative ideas and broad experience make him an invaluable asset in the Johnston School of Business and Executive Program classrooms, in the college’s administration, and to the regional businesses he advises.

Dr. Justice McAdoo

Instructor, Business

Dr. McAdoo currently teaches as a Business Instructor in the Johnston School of Business.  He received his B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University, M.B.A degree in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University, has completed his D.B.A. coursework with an emphasis in Healthcare Management from Walden University, and earned his D.B.A. degree from North Central University. Dr. McAdoo joined the faculty at Martin Methodist College in 2016, teaching a variety of courses including human resource management, economics, and management. Prior to coming to Martin Methodist, he worked as an operations manager for a small janitorial service company.

Dr. Cheri Thomas

Master/Lead Teacher, Management Emphasis Area

Dr. Cheri Thomas became associated with Martin Methodist College during the 2013-14 academic year, serving as a consultant in developing two new business-related programs. In May, she was named Executive Director of the newly created Center for Executive and Professional Development Certification Program.  Currently, she serves as a Professor of Business in the M.B.A. and B.B.A. programs.

Dr. Thomas holds both an M.B.A. and a D.B.A. with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. She has extensive work experience in the area of commercial real estate and marketing and has taught in the graduate business program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Nan Wakefield

Assistant Professor, Business

Master/Lead Teacher, MIS Emphasis Area

Ms. Wakefield graduated with honors from University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in Math and Computer Science.  After college she worked at Intergraph in Huntsville, Alabama and pursued her Masters degree, specializing in networks and distributed data processing.  In 2004 she joined the Martin Methodist College family full-time.  She serves as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the MIS emphasis area.
